Tesla’s big, epic, confusing future
On The Vergecast: what comes after being a car company, why Apple Watch rest days are such a big deal, and the weather app you need now.
And three instructors are leaving at the end of the month: Kendall Toole, Ross Rayburn, and Kristin McGee. An official Peloton statement pegs these departures as a “normal and ongoing part of the Peloton process,” while hinting that the company may hire new talent.
Real talk, Peloton is a media company now and that means instructor salaries are a huge cost in making content. It was only a matter of time before we saw this happen.
The Siri face no longer exists, at least in the watchOS 11 developer beta, according to AppleInsider. If it’s gone in the release version this fall, that may be the first watchface ever retired, the story notes.
The Siri face debuted with the Apple Watch series 3. Its big idea was that it would surface info as you need it, but new Smart Stack features may make it redundant.
You do need a Music Premium account, but you can download playlists for offline playback. We love to see Garmin add to the ConnectIQ store, which... let’s face it, doesn’t have the largest selection as far as third-party smartwatch app stores go. Previously, you could choose between Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer. (But I’ve yet to meet anyone who used the latter two with the Garmin.)
Popular Peloton instructor Kendall Toole announced today she’s leaving the platform. Earlier in April, instructor Ross Rayburn announced he was taking a break. And just last month, CEO Barry McCarthy stepped down amid another round of layoffs.
Any other company, I’d worry about customers jumping ship. But I spoke with several Peloton diehards and asked about this exact situation. They told me they’re not going anywhere.
Icons spotted on Samsung’s website show the Galaxy Buds 3 and 3 Pro headphones with AirPods-like stems — much like the leaked Galaxy Buds Pro 3 image posted by Evan Blass last week.
And it looks a lot like the Pixel Watch 3 leaks we saw the other day. Just bigger. How much bigger? Apparently the case will be 45mm, which as far as chonky smartwatches go isn’t that big. Even so, we love to see a bigger size option for folks with larger wrists — especially if that means a larger battery too.
Because bad news, it’s going kaput starting July 8th. After that, you’ll have to use the app. It’s not super surprising given how much effort Google’s put into redesigning the Fitbit app. Or how long it’s been since the web dashboard’s had a meaningful update of its own. Even so, it’s the end of an era.
I’m a trail runner that switched from Garmin to an Apple Watch Ultra. I like to leave my heavy phone at home which meant installing (and paying for) WorkOutDoors and Footpath to fill that massive off-line mapping void. A native watchOS solution should make things much, much easier.
Here, let DC Rainmaker explain the new custom routes feature.
What to expect at WWDC 2024
WWDC 2024 kicks off at 1PM ET on June 10th, and there’s going to be AI — so much AI.
This walking app let me whack my co-workers with a baseball bat
Stompers is what you’d get if you mixed together step counting, Looney Tunes, and Mario Kart.
Mostly because he got his mitts on this rad KDDI Infobar Apple Watch case. Turning the KDDI Infobar’s iconic design into a nostalgic Apple Watch accessory? Chef’s kiss. I miss that era of Japanese feature phones so friggin’ much.
You can read more about it in Sam’s review, but how’s that for ‘replacing’ your phone with a smartwatch?
The best Fitbits for your fitness and health
Whether you want a basic fitness tracker or a smartwatch, there’s a Fitbit for everyone — though the best Fitbit smartwatch isn’t technically a Fitbit.
Samsung’s Fitbit-like new Energy Score and Wellness Tips insights are apparently powered by “Galaxy AI,” even if it’s unclear exactly how. The sleep algorithm also adds tracking for “movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart rate and respiratory rate during sleep.”
Next-gen Galaxy Watches will get these as part of One UI 6 Watch, which arrives later this year, but a beta program starts next month.
Samsung’s next Galaxy watch may not only come with a squircle-shaped redesign, but it also could feature new “Ultra” branding, as spotted in an FCC listing by MySmartPrice. The Galaxy Watch Ultra is rumored to come with a 1.5-inch display, a rotating bezel, and a third button.
The date, first reported by Sammobile back in March, is now being reported as fact by Chosun. It also makes sense given Samsung’s sponsorship of the Paris Olympics which kicks off on July 26th — oh, the advertising possibilities!
Expect to hear more on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 and wearables like the Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Buds 3.
